Taking Death & Grief Outside

“Strength of heart comes from knowing that the pain we each must bear is part of the greater pain shared by all that lives. It is not just “our” pain but the pain, and realizing this awakens our universal compassion.”

– Jack Kornfield

“In times of crisis, we summon up our strength. Then, if we are lucky, we are able to call every resource, every forgotten image that can leap to our quickening, every memory that can make us know our power. And this luck is more than it seems to be: it depends on the long preparation of the self to be used.”

–Muriel Rukeyser

“Suffering comes about by ignorance, egotism, attachment, aversion, and clinging to bodily security.”

–Yoga Sutra 2.3, translation by Dr. S. Ranganathan
